Auriel House has been developed for children whose primary assessed needs are emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.
Co-existing needs such as ADHD or autism may be considered where emotional and/or behavioural difficulties remain the primary placement need and the referral, matching and impact assessment show that the home can meet the child’s needs safely within its staffing model, environment and current group mix.
Auriel House is not seeking registration for learning disability, physical disability, sensory impairment, mental disorder or present drug or alcohol dependence as primary placement categories.
Additional needs will be considered individually, but a placement will not be accepted where the child’s assessed primary need falls outside the home’s proposed registration, staffing model or capability.
Placements will ordinarily be long-term, allowing stable relationships, consistent routines and individual support to develop.
Short-term, assessment, urgent or emergency referrals may be considered only where sufficient information is available and safety, compatibility, staffing and the current group mix can be properly assessed. Urgency will never replace careful matching.
We will discuss the child’s needs, legal status, education, health, relationships, risks and intended placement outcomes.
The Registered Manager will review the available care-planning, education, health, risk and chronology information.
We will consider the child’s needs alongside the needs, routines, vulnerabilities and relationships of any children already living in the home.
We will assess staffing skills and numbers, education arrangements, community risks, transport, contact and any additional support required.
Where helpful, the child may visit the home, meet staff or take part in a planned transition before moving.
A placement will be accepted only when the Registered Manager is satisfied that the child’s needs can be met safely and well.
A 72-hour Placement Plan will be completed on arrival and reviewed with the placing authority within 72 hours.
Children already living at Auriel House will be consulted in age-appropriate and confidential ways. Their views will inform the assessment without sharing another child’s private information.
For more complex referrals, the Registered Manager may seek consultation from Meadows Psychology Service to strengthen the assessment and identify the support the child and staff team may need. The placement decision remains the responsibility of Auriel House.
Current Care Plan, chronology, legal status and any relevant court orders, bail conditions, curfews or restrictions.
Current PEP and EHCP, where applicable, education reports, timetable, attendance and transport arrangements.
Health summary, relevant CAMHS or psychology reports, current medication and MAR information.
Recent incidents, known triggers and current assessments relating to missing from care, exploitation, self-harm, child-on-child harm, bullying, harmful sexual behaviour, online safety, substance use, weapons where applicable, and community and travel risks.
Identity, culture, faith and communication needs; family contact arrangements; delegated authority; and relevant consent or information-sharing arrangements.
Social worker, IRO, Virtual School, education provider, health professionals and CAMHS or YOT contacts where involved.
